Friend:

I want to start by thanking the voters of Somerville for the vote of confidence they gave our campaign Tuesday night. Somerville overwhelmingly opted for new leadership in City Hall and went with our Somerville-powered campaign as the preferred choice by a significant margin. This is a recognition of the work we put in connecting with voters over the past nine months.

Campaigns at the local level don’t really consist of showing up to a crowd and delivering a rousing speech or putting out viral social media content. Campaigns are more of a daily grind of knocking doors, calling and texting voters, and building a base of dedicated volunteers to reach voters across the city. So I also want to thank our army of amazing volunteers for showing up and doing the work alongside me on this campaign.

I want to congratulate Willie Burnley Jr. on advancing beyond the preliminary. His campaign clearly spoke to segments of the city to earn him a spot in the municipal election over an incumbent mayor. And I look forward to working with him for the good of Somerville after I’m elected as your next mayor on November 4.

I also want to take a moment to express appreciation to Katjana Ballantyne for stepping up as Mayor in 2021 to succeed an 18-year incumbent. Those were always going to be massive shoes to fill, and our city owes her a huge debt of gratitude for her service these past four years. I admire Katjana as a person and know her to be someone who cares deeply about our city. I know she will be a great partner in the transition to come after the election.

If you supported the Mayor in this election, I understand your disappointment in seeing your preferred candidate go out. But I’m asking for your support in the municipal election this November to make sure Somerville elects the right person to lead this city forward.

If proven executive experience matters to you, I’m your candidate.

If a proven track record of prioritizing and achieving inclusivity as the leader of an organization matters to you, I’m your candidate.

If proven, deep knowledge of municipal finance matters to you, I’m your candidate.

If proven leadership on the climate crisis matters to you, I’m your candidate.

If bringing our city together instead of looking for ways to divide ourselves matters to you, I’m your candidate.

With under seven weeks to go before the final municipal election in November, our campaign needs two things right now more than ever:

1. Money. We need to refill our campaign coffers after four rounds of mail ahead of the preliminary. If you’ve already given, can you consider an additional contribution? If you’re yet to donate, will you do so now? The annual individual contribution limit is $1,000, but every dollar helps. Click here to donate via our ActBlue.

2. Volunteers. We need to continue talking to voters on the doors and phones over the next seven weeks, and really expand those efforts. The opposing campaign will continue to bring in outside canvassers to Somerville. So please consider coming out door-knocking with us at an upcoming weekend canvass, as well as joining in a weeknight phone or text banking operation. Click here to volunteer with the campaign.

The bottom line is this: I’m excited and I’m thankful to have this opportunity. I relish the fact that our community is confident that we can do better. There’s plenty of work ahead for us, and I’m ready. No matter how big or small, you can play a role in building a more affordable, safe, and welcoming Somerville. Be in touch.

Let’s get to it.

-Jake

Let's keep the momentum going!

While we're in an excellent position ahead of the November 4 municipal election, we need to keep doing the work to make sure Jake becomes our next mayor. And a big way we do that is by getting out and talking to our neighbors at their doors.

So come join us for our weekend canvasses on Saturday and Sunday. We'll be launching multiple canvasses on both days, so sign up for a shift -- or two -- that works for you. Then bring your fully-charged phone, comfortable footwear, and a bag to hold campaign lit. We'll make sure you're prepared for a great time out talking to voters.

RSVP for a Saturday or Sunday shift now!

Then join us Saturday night for the latest edition of our Campaign Cocktail Club. Jake will be making drinks from a menu that includes cocktails, mocktails, wine, and beer. It's a great time for all ages and the perfect way to raise funds for the campaign:
