Two weeks ago our campaign took a big step and paid for polling. We hired a top polling firm with a national reputation to find out where the voters are Somerville are at as the September 16 preliminary election rapidly approaches. As someone who loves data, I wanted to collect quality information about the state of the race.

The polling reveals a competitive three-way preliminary contest. While the polling has us going through next month, the margins are tight. This underlines that we have to go all out over the next six weeks -- or we risk coming up short.

In encouraging news, the polls showed both potential head-to-head matchups in November looking good for us. Only 1 in 4 voters believes the current mayor deserves re-election, and we perform significantly better than the other challenger against the incumbent mayor. We're favored against the other challenger in all turnout scenarios. But we need to get through to November first.

The polling data shows voters who know me have a very favorable view of me. The big challenge for a challenger is making voters aware of our campaign. And that's where you come in.

Please talk to your friends about this campaign. Make sure they know you're supporting me and why. Host a private gathering at your home or in your yard.

Volunteer with us. We're always looking for folks to knock doors, phone bank, or text bank. You can register as a volunteer with us here.

Contribute financially to the campaign. That polling wasn't cheap, and we are doing a series of mail pieces to likely voters in the coming weeks. A city-wide mailer is expensive, so we need financial support.

If you've donated previously and are under the $1,000 individual annual contribution limit for 2025, can you give again?

And if you've yet to donate to our campaign, I'm asking you to do so now.

With six strong weeks, I'm confident we'll make a strong showing in the preliminary election and set ourselves up for success in November. Thanks for doing what you can to be a part of that!
